The Sarnia-Lambton community is mourning the sudden and tragic death of Ochard “Ocho” Campbell, a former Lambton College men’s soccer student-athlete whose warmth, energy, athletic ability, and love of soccer left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Campbell, 21, died following a drowning incident at The Cove in Sarnia on September 7, 2026. His death has brought profound sadness to his family, friends, teammates, and the wider sports and college communities.

A Tragic Loss in Sarnia

Sarnia Fire Rescue’s Marine Unit was called to The Cove near Canatara Park on September 7 after a report of a possible drowning. A major search operation followed, involving local emergency responders and assistance from agencies across the region.

The search continued for more than five hours before the missing 21-year-old was located. While first responders initially did not publicly identify the swimmer, Sarnia FC later confirmed that the person who died was Ochard Campbell, a valued member of its men’s competitive program.

His death has left those closest to him struggling with the loss of a young man whose life was still filled with promise.

Remembered by Lambton College

Campbell was a member of the Lambton College Lions men’s soccer program for two seasons, playing during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The college remembered him not simply for his talent on the field, but for the personality he brought to the community.

Lambton College Athletics described Campbell as someone with a friendly smile and infectious energy who made people feel welcome. The college also emphasized his genuine character and the positive presence he brought to both the Lambton College and broader Sarnia-Lambton communities.

A fundraising campaign was also established to help Campbell’s family with funeral expenses and unexpected costs following his sudden death.
