His passing has left behind a family and community remembering a man whose life was defined by devotion to those closest to him, service to his country and a wide range of interests that brought him joy.

Early Life and Military Service

Joseph was born to the late Joseph D. Miller Jr. and Wilma Miller. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School before going on to serve in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk.

Following his military service, Joseph continued his education and earned an associate degree from Gloucester County College. His years of service and education formed an important part of the life he built in the years that followed.

Joseph later became known for his dedication to his family and his involvement in the Mantua community.

A Devoted Husband and Father

One of the most important parts of Joseph’s life was his family. He shared 33 years of marriage with his wife, Karen I. Miller, who was described in his obituary as his partner in all things and the love of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph D. Miller Jr. and Wilma Miller, as well as siblings Donna Carroll and Debbie Miller and nephews Jeff McDaniels and Dennis McDaniels.

A visitation and memorial service are scheduled for Friday, September 11, 2026, at Smith Funeral Home in Mantua. Visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m.
