Rohit Rohit Death: Sacramento County Woman Killed After Months of Stalking and Restraining Order
A 38-year-old woman was fatally shot outside a Sacramento County shopping center Tuesday after months of alleged stalking and harassment by the man authorities say was responsible for her death. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspected shooter as 22-year-old Rohit Rohit, who was later found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Highway 50.
The woman’s identity has not yet been publicly released as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.
Sacramento County Shooting
Deputies were called shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday to a shopping center near Panera Bread at Howe and Northrup avenues in the Arden-Arcade area. Investigators said Rohit had been waiting at the location when the woman arrived.
According to the sheriff’s office, Rohit approached her and began accosting her. When the woman attempted to escape, investigators said he chased her before shooting her multiple times. After she fell, he allegedly fired another shot at close range. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting triggered a major law-enforcement response and later led to a standoff on Highway 50, where Rohit was located inside a vehicle.
Woman Had Restraining Order Against Rohit Rohit
Sheriff’s officials said the deadly confrontation followed months of alleged stalking and harassment.
Investigators said the woman discovered an Apple AirTag hidden under the hood of her vehicle in January. Authorities also described other incidents in which Rohit allegedly deflated one of her tires and followed her to work while attempting to offer assistance.
The sheriff’s office further said Rohit obtained a copy of the woman’s apartment key and entered her home while she was sleeping. He reportedly told her afterward that he entered because he was concerned something had happened to her when she did not respond.
The woman eventually obtained a restraining order in May after deputies encouraged her to seek one. In July, she reported another possible violation after Rohit allegedly left groceries outside her home.
Highway 50 Standoff and Death
Following the shooting, witnesses provided investigators with information about Rohit’s vehicle. Authorities used the Flock license plate-reader system to help locate the vehicle near Highway 50 and Howe Avenue.
Deputies ultimately found Rohit on eastbound Highway 50 near Watt Avenue. According to investigators, he stopped on the freeway and refused to exit the vehicle. He was later found dead inside after apparently shooting himself.
The law-enforcement response resulted in Highway 50 being shut down between Howe and Watt avenues for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
Investigation Continues
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including Rohit’s actions before he arrived at the shopping center and the events immediately preceding the woman’s death.
The woman’s name had not been released in the latest reports, leaving family, friends and the wider Sacramento County community awaiting further information.
The case has also renewed attention on the dangers associated with prolonged stalking and harassment, particularly when protective orders have already been obtained. Investigators are expected to continue reviewing evidence from the shopping center, the woman’s prior reports and the Highway 50 scene as they work to establish the full timeline.
At this stage, authorities have confirmed the deaths of both the 38-year-old woman and Rohit Rohit, while the investigation remains ongoing.
