Christine Wells Obituary, Cause of Death: 67-Year-Old Pocomoke Woman Dies in Apparent Murder-Suicide
The Pocomoke and Somerset County communities are mourning the death of Christine Wells, 67, who died in an apparent murder-suicide at a residence on Dividing Creek Road in Maryland. Wells was found unresponsive after Maryland State Police responded to the home for a welfare check on the evening of September 6, 2026.
According to authorities, troopers from the Maryland State Police Princess Anne Barrack were called to a residence in the 7500 block of Dividing Creek Road shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The response followed a request for a welfare check at the Pocomoke-area home.
When troopers arrived, they found Wells inside the residence. She was later identified as a 67-year-old woman from Pocomoke, Maryland.
Christine Wells Dies at 67
Investigators also found Robert Dehart, 66, at the residence with what police described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Wells and Dehart were both pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore subsequently ruled Wells’ death a homicide. Authorities believe Wells and Dehart had previously been in a relationship, and investigators said Wells was serving as Dehart’s caretaker at the time of the incident.
The circumstances have led authorities to investigate the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the discovery, investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the residence, along with crime-scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.
Investigators processed the scene and reviewed available evidence as they worked to establish the circumstances that led to the deaths.
Authorities have not indicated that there is any continuing threat to the public associated with the incident. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
